Falcon

Falcon

Falcon

0.022 seconds. That was the winning margin of Giant-Alpecin’s Tom Dumoulin in the prologue of the 2016 Giro d’Italia in the Netherlands, securing the first Maglia Rosa of the race for the Dutch team. Dumoulin’s secret weapon? The Etxeondo Falcon time trial suit. The Falcon is more than a piece of clothing; it is the result of a painstaking partnership between Etxeondo’s designers and scientists at the University of Delft in the Netherlands, aimed at giving Dumoulin every possible advantage against the clock. Using a combination of wind tunnel testing and the University’s unique Particle Image Velocimetry - where airflow is analysed using helium-filled soap bubbles and laser technology - fabric choice and design was optimised, leading to the first Falcon, which Dumoulin used to devastating effect in the 2015 Vuelta Espana. Nine months later, further prototypes, tested at Delft on a 3D printed replica of Dumoulin, led to the second generation Falcon and that glorious day in Apeldoorn. For sheer speed, Falcon has set a new benchmark.

Feather

Feather shorts

In 2010, Etxeondo unveiled Feather, the world’s lightest bibshort. Constructed using Etxeondo’s Microsystem technology, Feather blends minimalist function with comfortable and durability. At just 114 grams in a size medium, it provides unbeatable comfort in intense heat. Featuring the latest generation of highly elastic fabrics, combined with a reduced number of seams, Feather flows perfectly with the movement of the rider, forming a virtual second skin. A twin-layer construction ensures superb moisture management while a specific Feather pad was key to the shorts’ incredible light weight; a new high density foam providing excellent protection and great fit with minimum bulk. Feather: For the longest of summer days in the high mountains, you can make no finer choice.

Windstopper

Windstopper

Windstopper

The wind is the cyclist’s oldest enemy. On the bike, a wind speed of 32.2 kmh at 5 °C gives a temperature sensation of -8 ° C, meaning a rider burns precious energy just keeping warm. Keeping the wind out, preventing that heat loss, is key to maintaining performance in the harshest conditions. Etxeondo have worked with Gore’s Windstopper fabrics since 1992, one of the first cycling brands to recognise its potential, forming a partnership that has consistently produced class-leading jackets and vests. Windstopper will keep a rider up to 2.5 times warmer than the same material without the Windstopper membrane. It is also highly breathable. During an intense effort, a rider can release more than four and a half cups of perspiration in an hour. Windstopper has 1.4 billion micropores per 2.4 square centimetres, allowing water vapor to leave virtually unobstructed, even when the athlete is working at maximum intensity. The latest, elastic generation of Windstopper fabrics - treated with the water-repellent polymer DWR - have opened the door to a new generation of clothing that blend total protection from cold and wet weather with comfort and freedom of movement.

Dyneema

Dyneema

Dyneema

Etxeondo’s highly crash-resistant Dyneema® fabric is a game changer in the world of cycling clothing. Dyneema®, developed in conjunction with Etxeondo suppliers DSM and Taiana, protects the rider from road rash in the event of a fall through a unique combination of abrasion resistance and elasticity; a super-resistant fibre helps maintain the integrity of the fabric with elastomers providing stretch and comfort. Dyneema®, gram-for-gram 15 times stronger than steel, was first used in bibshorts tested by Team Giant-Alpecin riders in the 2015 Tour de France, limiting the injuries sustained by Ramon Sinkeldan, Warren Barguil and Georg Preidler after they were involved in first-week crashes. The shorts were officially unveiled at the prestigious Eurobike trade show in September that year, winning a clothing prize in the Eurobike Awards, with a panel of six judges praising their innovation, functionality, design, materials and value. In 2016, Dyneema® was incorporated into Etxeondo’s Rali bibshorts and the Sekur softshell jacket, bringing the comfort and protection available to the professionals to our customers everywhere.
